Bushey Hall

Photo taken by J. Reeves Haley sometime during the winter of 1944-1945 while serving in the U.S. Army Eighth Air Corp in England. Bushey Hall, near Watford, Hertfordshire, was built in 1865 and served in various functions over the years, primarily as a hotel or a health resort. It was taken over by the British government for use in World War I and again in World War II when it was requisitioned by RAF Fighter Command. Fighter Command then turned it over to the U.S. Army Air Corp and it became Headquarters for Eighth Air Corp, Fighter Command from summer, 1942 until January 1945. At its peak, 15 U.S. fighter groups were controlled through this HQ. Unfortunately, the building was razed sometime in the 1950’s.
